This research brief highlights key trends in Chile’s wine industry, where exports have tripled since 2000, making Chile the fourth-largest wine exporter globally. Despite this growth, Chilean wines are priced below the global average due to limited “terroir” recognition, a less prominent origin system, and the dominance of large producers. There is a disparity between large wineries and smaller grape producers, affecting price, quality, and market access, with the top companies controlling much of the export market. The brief calls for strategies to raise wine value and improve labour conditions, especially for workers working for small producers.

The brief draws upon a full report on the wine supply chain in Chile published in 2023
