Geneva (ILO News) – The workshop hosted at ILO Headquarters in Geneva, focused on the theme of sustainable supply chains and financing. Participants delved into critical regulatory measures such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). These discussions highlighted opportunities to align sustainability goals with employment growth, as well as challenges faced by policymakers and stakeholders. Led by Climate & Company, the session featured concrete examples of implementation from across the region.

Adding an innovative touch to the workshop, METI organized a small exhibition showcasing its journey, which highlighted key milestones and achievements over the past four years. This exhibition provided a visual narrative of METI’s efforts to integrate employment considerations into trade and investment policies and foster regional collaboration.

The workshop also served as a platform for participants to share country-specific cases and innovative approaches, sparking dialogue with policymakers from across the region. This rich exchange reinforced METI’s legacy of regional knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

Continuing the journey: days 2 and 3

The event continues at the International Trade Centre (ITC) with joint sessions hosted by ITC and ILO, bringing together stakeholders from the METI and Trade and Investment Facilitation Mechanism (TIFM II) programmes. These discussions aim to synthesize lessons learned and foster alignment between employment, trade, and investment strategies.

Day 2 (December 11):

The second day will feature technical sessions where participants will exchange insights and strategies from both METI and TIFM II. These sessions will include high-level panelists and distinguished speakers who will share their perspectives on driving sustainable growth through integrated policies.

Day 3 (December 12):

The culmination is a joint technical closing event, featuring a dialogue between government representatives, worker organizations, and employer groups. This session will celebrate METI’s milestones, while fostering forward-looking discussions and recommendations to guide the next phase of the programme.
