Setting future priorities for ASEAN: Leveraging labour market information for skills and employment policies
The workshop will present findings from a regional mapping for skills and employment policies in ASEAN and discuss future cooperation.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is organizing a workshop under the RECOTwin project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the ASEAN Secretariat's support.
The workshop will present findings from the Regional Mapping of Labour Market Information for Skills and Employment Policies in ASEAN Member States. It will focus on national priorities, planned actions, and potential pathways for future regional cooperation. Additionally, the new RECOTwin project, endorsed by the Senior Labour Officials Meeting (SLOM) and its Working Group (SLOM-WG), will be introduced.
This initiative aligns with the ILO’s 2023 resolution on a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies. The regional mapping report highlights key challenges, gaps, and good practices in the use of labour market information and in supporting inclusive and gender-equal labour and skills policies amid green and digital transitions.
Objectives:
- Launch the Regional Mapping Report on labour market information for skills and employment policies in ASEAN Member States.
- Set common understanding on the role of LMI for skills and employment policies in ASEAN.
- Discuss ASEAN states' policy priorities and needs in the context of economic transitions, particularly focusing on the green and digital transitions, with a commitment to inclusiveness and gender equality.
- Identify key policy questions, challenges and opportunities, related to the role labour and skills must play in economic transitions (such as digital and green transitions) and explore how labour market information can be enhanced to support effective policy responses.
- Develop recommendations for improving the collection, analysis and dissemination of labour marketing information across ASEAN so that can better inform employment and skills-related policies and programmes.
- Promote regional cooperation by exploring pathways for ASEAN Member States to collaborate on enhancing LMI for skills and employment policies in the context of green, digital and inclusive economic transition.
- Introduce the GIZ project “Future-Oriented Labour Market Policy and TVET for a Twin Transition in ASEAN” (RECOTwin) and its role in supporting labour market policy and skills development in the ASEAN region.
