Haiti
Haiti has been a member of the ILO since 1919. The country has ratified eight of the ten fundamental Conventions, one of the four governance Conventions, and 17 technical Conventions.
The Republic of Haiti has a land area of 27,750 km², with an estimated population of 11,724,800 inhabitants (CEPALSTAT, 2023). Having several important cities such a Cap-Haïtien and Gonaïves, St. Marc, Les Cayes and Jacmel, the country’s capital is Port-au-Prince.
In order to fulfill the mandate of promoting decent work and fostering social justice, the ILO provides technical assistance to its tripartite partners in the country - government, employers’ and workers’ organizations - through a team of experts and by the implementation of technical cooperation projects that address the priority challenges identified in the different areas of the labour field.
ILO actions in Haiti are coordinated from the Office for Central America, Haiti, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
