Backgrounds

The United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) is a unique collaboration that brings together UN entities, governments, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and broader civil society. Its mission is to advance the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and disability-inclusive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the country level worldwide.

In China, the UNCT conducted a comprehensive situational analysis in 2023, focusing on stakeholder coordination mechanisms, preconditions for disability inclusion, cross-cutting approaches, and disability inclusion in broader development and humanitarian contexts.

The UNPRPD program in China aims to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities are respected, protected, and fulfilled, promoting their equitable participation in society and aligning with China’s commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda.

The ILO is dedicated to advancing inclusive employment for individuals with disabilities by tailoring its specialized tools and harnessing its extensive experience to support China in its endeavor to establish a work environment that is diverse and inclusive.

Objectives

The project aims to reinforce the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), foster inclusive employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and guide domestic companies toward creating diverse and inclusive work environments where everyone feels valued and belonging.

Key activities

  • Enhancing the capacity of stakeholders through training and education to develop a deeper understanding of disabilities and the importance of inclusive employment practices.
  • Developing an Inclusive Employment Index, a comprehensive and user-friendly tool that guides the private sector in implementing strategies to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Inclusive Employment Index within workplaces.
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement by encouraging the exchange of experiences and best practices related to diversity and inclusion among domestic companies.
